The city is located on the Atlantic coast, across the bridge from Lisbon, which you can reach in about an hour by bus or train. Take a nice walk through the quiet, scenic park Parque do Bonfim to get to one of the main local attractions, the Monastery of Jesus. The marvellous St. Julian's Church, which was built in the 13th century and then rebuilt in the 18th, is a short walk away. Don’t forget to visit Mercado do Livramento, a large covered market where you will find freshly caught fish, fruits and vegetables.
